PROGRAM OFFERED

The WEJATC offers training to become a Journey-level Inside Construction Electrician, trained to perform in three areas of work:  residential, commerical and industrial. The State of Wyoming Electrical Division requires a minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job-training (OJT), under the supervision of a journey-level electrician,  as well as four years of classroom-related instruction to test for a State of Wyoming journey-level license.

Step 1 - How do I Qualify

An applicant to the WEJATC must meet four minimum requirements to apply for apprenticeship.

  • Applicant must be 18 years old at time of application.
  • Applicant must show proof of one credit in Algebra I or a higher math class with a passing grade OR you may substitute the SkillsPrep.org Online Learning System math course for the math requirement.  Visit https://www.skillsprep.org/login/index.php .   
  • Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
  • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.

THOSE INDIVIDUALS WITH ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE: 

Individuals who can verify (by providing *indisputable documention) that they have worked a minimum of two-thousand (2,000) hours in the electrical construction trade, will qualify for an direct interview to be considered along with other qualified applicants.

Individuals who can verify (by providing *indisputable documentation) that they have worked a minimum of four-thousand (4,000) hours in the electrical construction trade, will qualify for direct entry. Applicants with at least 4,000 hours can choose to take the WEJATC Advanced Placement Test prior to applying to determine what year of curriculum they would be placed in. 

*Indisputable Documentation is verification of hours worked in general areas of residential, commercial or industrial or by actual tasks and submitted on your past employer’s company letterhead and signed by a company official and notarized OR a copy of the Wyoming Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety Apprentice Electrician O.J.T. Work Experience Verification form filled out completely and notarized.

Step 2 - Application

Applications are completed on-line as of July 15, 2024See the link at the bottom of this page! 

The application and documentation must be submitted through the application portal within 30 days of starting the application. There is a $30 non-refundable processing fee required to be paid by debit/credit card by calling the WEJATC Office (307)234-8311 after the application and documents have been uploaded. 

Documents Required:

  • Proof of age (copy of birth certificate or copy of passport )
  • Driving Record (available through the Department of Motor Vehicles)
  • Driver's License
  • Proof of Algebra I and Graduation (transcripts from school)
  • Transcript of College, Trade School or Armed Services training if applicable.
  • Resume
  • If GED Graduate-Copy of GED Certificate. 
  • ALTERNATE ITEMS-Proof of electrical construction experience of at least 2,000 hours and/or DD-214. 

 

Step 3 - Aptitude Test

Qualified applicants who have completed the application process will be notified via their email on record with the WEJATC of the next available Aptitude Test Date, Time and Location.

You must bring a valid Driver’s License with you to the Aptitude Test for Identification purposes.  You must obtain a minimum score of "4" to advance to the interview process. 

Step 4 - Oral Interview

Applicants who qualify for an oral interview will be notified of the interview date and time via the email on record with the WEJATC.  Applicants will be interviewed by a Committee representing both NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) and the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). The Committee will consider such attributes as:

  • Education
  • Ability/Skills
  • Work Experience
  • Reliability
  • Interest
  • Attitude
  • Judgment
  • Cooperation

 Electrical construction experience is not required, but construction knowledge is helpful! 

 

 Step 5 - Ranking & Indenturement

Based on the interview, applicants will receive an overall ranking score. Applicants will then be ranked on a list according to this final score. As new positions become available in the apprenticeship program, names will be taken off the list in the order that their name appear.

Applicant names will remain on this list for up to 2 years. If you have not been selected within the 2 year period you may reapply at the end of the 2 year period. However, you may request to re-interview AFTER after 90 days and 450 hours of electrical construction experience.

If accepted into the program you may request credit for previous work experience at the time of indenturement. Proper documentation will be required. The Committee’s decision will be final.

Applicants can be indentured throughout the entire year to start accuring the 8,000 hours of OJT.  Schooling is scheduled to start every fall and enrollment in the classroom releated training will be scheduled accordingly.
